Woman from Graal-Müritz loses 90,000 euros to love fraudster
The 84-year-old fell for the love scam, in which victims are made to believe they are in love. She not only lost her savings, but also part of an acquaintance's fortune. The total damage: around 90,000 euros.
They feign great love for their victims in order to then cheat them out of their savings. An 84-year-old woman from Graal-Müritz has now fallen victim to such brazen online fraudsters and has lost not only her own fortune,
but also part of the fortune of an acquaintance from Rostock to so-called love scammers.
As Florian Müller, spokesman for the Güstrow police station, announced on Wednesday, April 3rd, the 84-year-old
is said to have maintained an acquaintance with the man who supposedly lives in England via the Internet. “According to the 70-year-old acquaintance’s statement, months of intensive exchange of messages followed,” said Müller. There were also demands for various amounts of money. The love scammer tricked his victim into thinking he needed the money for medical treatment, for example.
In addition, the fraudsters are said to have made the Graal-Müritz woman believe that her supposedly English acquaintance had been imprisoned in a Turkish prison through no fault of her own.“The unsuspecting victim also transferred the money for the deposit,” says the police spokesman.
Due to her own insolvency, the 84-year-old finally asked her 70-year-old friend from Rostock for financial help. The woman is also said to have transferred this money to the alleged internet acquaintance. Total damage: around 90,000 euros. “When the 70-year-old was finally informed about the cause of her acquaintance’s
financial problems, suspicions of fraud arose and a criminal complaint was filed with the police,” Müller gives further details in the case. The criminal proceedings initiated were taken over by the criminal police in Sanitz.
