
New case of “love scamming”: 63-year-old sends 20,000 euros to love scammers
A 63-year-old woman from the Rostock district fell victim to a fraudster who manipulated her feelings on a dating platform in order to get her out of over 20,000 euros.
A previously unknown man faked feelings of love for a woman from the Rostock district and cheated her out of more than 20,000 euros. According to the police on Friday, he had previously contacted the 63-year-old via a dating platform. He asked her to make payments several times over a long period of time, whereupon the woman gave him the money. It was only after she noticed the dizziness that she filed a complaint on Thursday, it was said.
In this context, the police speak of “love scamming”, a type of fraud in which perpetrators emotionally influence their counterparts until they make payments to them.
