Police: Fraud with love scamming costs a man 51,000 euros
A 28-year-old fell victim to the brazen "Love Scamming" scam. According to the police, he lost a total of 51,000 euros. According to Güstrower, the starting point of the fraud was an ordinary chat on an online dating platform. In two months, the man then maintained an intensive exchange of messages via Whatsapp with a woman who was supposedly of Russian origin, but who, according to her own statements, lives in Prague.
According to the police, the stranger pretended to be successful in online trading. She wormed his trust in by pretending to be amorous. The unsuspecting man opened an account on a supposed online trading platform and transferred money to this account.
When the alleged trading platform demanded further payments from the now insolvent man, for example to pay outstanding taxes, the contact broke off abruptly. It was only at that moment that the victim realized that he might have been the victim of fraudulent activities. The police have initiated the investigation.
