No money, no husband: In Ternopil Oblast, a woman gave a "rich foreigner" $2,000

The woman even took out a loan to "get a gift."
In the Ternopil region, a “wealthy European” cheated a woman out of $2,000. He promised to send her an expensive gift that would have "duties" paid for.
This was announced by the police of the Ternopil region.

According to the police, a resident of the Ternopil region met a “foreigner” on social networks. He told her that he had been living in Europe since the death of his wife and was raising his children alone.

The "European" added that he was wealthy and wanted to give his new girlfriend a present - a package containing a large sum of money so that "she can spend this money on herself and on vacation". The woman agreed and waited for the money. She then received a call, allegedly from the delivery company, explaining that the package would be subject to US$2,000 in customs duties.

Believing that her new lover sent her more money, the resident of Ternopil Oblast paid all her savings for delivery, and also took out a loan, but did not wait for the package. She then contacted the police.

Police officers opened a case under Article 190 of the Criminal Code – Fraud.

“Such a scam is not new. In fact, scammers operate on the territory of Ukraine, there is no bridegroom from the United States or Europe, and packages from abroad are transported and paid for in other ways,” police emphasize.
