For a year, a woman from Rostock hoped for love. The desire to finally be with her internet acquaintance cost the 78-year-old dearly. She fell for a scam.
Rostock. An initially harmless chat ended for a 78-year-old from Rostock with the loss of a lot of money. According to the police, so-called love scammers had wormed their way into the woman's trust and cheated her out of several thousand euros.
The Rostock native had met a man through social networks. The alleged cello player quickly developed a confidential relationship with the woman. The supposed musician stated that he would like to come to Germany soon and move in with the Rostock native. Over the course of a year, the brazen scammer gained the Rostock resident's trust and pretended her feelings. He repeatedly asked her for money in order to make their future together a reality as quickly as possible.
Victims of multiple-sent digital money card codes
The 78-year-old sent codes for digital gift cards several times to speed up the man's entry. When the injured party became skeptical and refused further submissions, the alleged musician tried to make her feel guilty.
The Rostock native then filed a criminal complaint. In this context, the Rostock police advise caution. “Never transfer money or otherwise respond to requests from people you only know on the internet. Enter the name of your internet acquaintance into a search engine with the addition 'scammer'. In many cases, the suspicion of fraud can be confirmed here. Save all emails and chat texts and inform the police immediately.”
