Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
LOL, calm down.. Maybe he is indeed Chris, maybe he isn't. Maybe he is not even a Major, I don't understand much about ranks. Does anybody understand ranks? Is he a Major?
The thing is, with the military guys, their last name is usually written on their uniform, but knowing their real first name and their real rank is essential, because that's what mugus constantly alter, as they don't know it themselves.
Therefore, posters should be very careful claiming they know the full name of a real person, and if they do, show PROOF, because we might put it on RS, and if later it turns out it was not true, somebody can get scammed by a mugu using this exact name and then say: I got scammed because RS said he was real.

Leonard Haggard haggard 313@live.com
The last name of "Haggard" is appearing in quite a bit with different first names and ranks.
The pictures being used are of a real soldier who is not involved in the scam and who has spoken to the press a few years ago about his identity being stolen using images from his wife's social media sites. Perhaps a good reminder to be cautious of what images are publicly available since anyone can "snip" any image on the web.

The real soldier does know this is happening... he was interviewed by the press. Google MAJ Chris Haggard for the article. Cate

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
I aksed him about sending a care package last week... he replied that the APO was "shut down" and that his son had sent a package a few months ago that was still not delivered. Then he said he would be "coming home" soon to see me in person.
Will be interesting to see what he replies to you.

The real MAJ Chris Haggard is aware of this whole thing that is just a sick use of his identity and career. He did and interview with the press a few years ago after a woman tracked him down and accused him of defrauding her. The security at 10th Mountain was also in touch with him. If you Google his real name you will find the article.
I just lost some time and a few emotional bruises but am really angry as well that they would use soldiers in such a way!

Google Chris Haggard and you will find the information. The "Outside the Wire" blog carried the article about his being used in this scam.

Re: Capt Leonard Haggard-- using photos of real soldier
Sorry I deleted everything within an hour of the money request.
His story was that he couldn't wait to get out of "there" and be with me so he asked the "general" (didn't capitalize it) to let him come out early. After he had a meeting with the General within hours of suggesting he could, despite supposedly being at a remote base, he said he needed my "help" to get out of there in an email. No specifics.
A few hours later on IM chat (Messenger) he brought up his meeting with the "general" again. When I asked him what was up he said he couldn't use military transport if he left early from deployment. He had no access to his bank accounts or credit cards over there so couldI send him money. Then he added the amount of $3000. I replied that I did not have money to send him. He apologized for asking and said to forget he said anything about money.
I asked him how he would get the money if he had no access to any accounts, etc. He replied that one of the Generals was touring bases in Africa and I could send the money to him and he would bring it to Afghanistan in two days. When I questioned him on the location of Africa, he backed off quickly.
Chatted some more about how much he missed me and how special it would be to meet me at the airport.
Then he said to me that he had a friend who was on leave in the States and would be coming back to Afghanistan-- would I send the money to him to bring? I said I did not have money to send.
He suggested I must have savings or retirement funds or something... he would pay me back when he got here.
When I became angry and said no money was coming, he then went into how could I love him and how could we have something so special if I didn't trust him? I told him that I would trust him when he stepped off the plane in a military issue uniform. He said, "okay, I can do that." Then apologized again for asking for money, that he would tell the "general" that is had destroyed our relationship.
By this time, I was done with the game and closed everything down.
The scammer is very good, very convincing. Remembers small details to use in communications that convince you he is the real thing.

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
Yes, I am a legitimate victim of this type of scam. I was contacted through Match.com in July.
I didn't post the link to the article with the real soldier because I didn't want people to think I was trying to get them onto some fake site. People on here have been through enough.
But, here is the link: http://militarytimes.com/blogs/outside- ... -and-scam/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Feel free to ask me any questions... I have nothing to hide. (feel free to check that out too)
P.S. Today I have been wondering if the scammers use the profiles, info, etc of the women to con men?

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
I finally searched properly and came across several entries with Haggard+US Army... this led me an article of where he was interviewed about the scam
http://militarytimes.com/blogs/outside- ... -and-scam/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Then I did some more searching... and there is a FB page for "Chris Haggard" that has the same guy's face.

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
The rank insignia in the pictures is of a Captain. The first email claims he is a Staff Sargeant which when he is busted with that claims a friend told him to lie about his rank for "security reasons" because there are bad people on the internet.
The real guy is in the press about the scam. I didn't put it on the web first, he did himself. I have posted the link to the article in reply to others but here it is again:

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
I am real... and just over 24 hours ago discovered I was involved with a scammer. I didn't realize there was a minimum requirement for posting to be considered a legitimate victim. I DO NOT want any information about these pictures or these scammers messages taken down! I want this exposed as much as possible!
How I wish I had known about this site two months ago!

Re: Jake Brown (jake_brown004@yahoo.com)
Thanks for posting a link to the article!!! Now, this is a good link and a proof that the real guy's name is really Maj. Chris Haggard.
We just don't want mistakes, we want to make sure we really know who the real guy is, in order not to mislead victims.
Thanks again for clarifying.
