My housemate has been FaceBooking with this guy for a couple of weeks and something that happened today sent a lot of RED FLAGS flying for me, so I did some investigating and eventually I found a couple of the photos he has on his FB page on posts here.
He's calling himself "Kevin Schwartz" on FaceBook, from Los Angeles. Another red flag for me was that he posts almost nothing but photos and only has one other FB follower, someone my friend says she knows.
"Kevin Schwartz" claims he is working as some kind of oil industry engineer on ships from Edison Fourchon Offshore company based in Louisiana and Houston, and he is currently on his way to Egypt on a company ship. He claims he is widowed, wife died of some disease a few years ago, has 2 kids. Bad grammar and writing skills, as usual with these scammers, can't call because cell service is bad, etc. Oh, and his house is about to be foreclosed on.
BUT, he wants to take emergency vacation time starting as soon as possible to come to Los Angeles to see my friend (yeah, right!).
"Kevin" told my friend by FB message to email this guy at "The United Nations Vacation Department" (there is no such department) called "Adam Greg", claiming she is his wife and to tell "Adam Greg" that "Kevin" needs to come "home" to take care of this emergency mortgage situation, which she did.
Then she got a reply email from "Adam Greg", the text of which is below (with her name redacted) - the graphics on the email included a big UN logo which didn't copy here.
I might not have even known this was going on except that my housemate asked ME how to email a copy of her State issued ID and I asked her why. She showed me that "Adam Greg" email and that was absolutely it for me - total scam happening here. I put a stop to her responding to the email and to "Kevin's" FB messages right there.
My housemate had to go out, but when she comes back, I'm going to show her the results of my investigation of "Kevin" and what he and "Adam" were telling her and the posts here on RS to prove that "Kevin" absolutely WAS scamming her.
I will also make her block him on FB and on any other kind of contact she's used with him.
