As of 9/12/2014 this scammer is pretending to be Alec Couros on a dating app called Tango. He is going by the name Mark Williams. He said he has two children and the wife had passed away. He said his mother had passed away too but she recorded his voicemail as Donna Accra. Accra is the capital of Ghana, Africa where this scammer is really from. The phone number he is using is 702-720-3974. The email he is using is markdwilliams3@gmail.com. He told my friend he is in the oil industry and was out of the country at the moment and his children lived in boarding school in Las Vegas. He also sent pictures of children that he said were his. I did a google image search and found the real Alec Couros facebook page online. His mother is still alive and visited him last week. BEWARE TANGO USERS OF THIS SCAMMER GOING BY MARK WILLIAMS IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.

Yes indeed if they mention Ghana they are a ring of scammers from over there.
They not pretending to be Alex. They stole and abusing his pictures but created a cyber ghost named Mark Williams. Rest of the story is very typical scam script.
Please tell your friend to BLOCK and IGNORE all future attempts of communication. What he is doing right is called mind manipulation and as soon as your friend would be brainwashed to the point of his convince he would come with some horrible excuse and ask for money....

my mother got scammed by this individual . we drifted apart in some way because of it . i have managed to get this persons email address and and cellphone number . he is using a south african cellphone number which means he must be based here in south africa . his number is 0784033158 email address is fankrodwell890@gmail.com and he goes by the name of frank rodwell. is there anyway how you can track someones cellphone number guys . i would really like to know

Why did the photo of this happily married Regina man end up on the mantel in a woman's home in Texas?

For years con artists have been using the identity of Alec Couros for romance scamming. They take his photos, pretend to be someone they are not, and then scam people into falling in love with them, often trying to get money as the end result.

Alec also happens to be a professor of communication technologies at the University of Regina. He explains what romance scamming is and how it can be avoided.
