I've had my photos used for about seven years now, and it's common for me to get several reports a week of people who have been scammed or almost scammed by imposters using my photos. I was recently interviewed by the CBC in Canada. You can find the audio interview here: http://www.cbc.ca/morningedition/episod ... -scamming/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Also, here is a shorter text version of the interview. http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/saskatc ... -1.2800046" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Regina man's identity gets used in romance scamming
Alec Couros.jpeg
Why did the photo of this happily married Regina man end up on the mantel in a woman's home in Texas?
For years con artists have been using the identity of Alec Couros for romance scamming. They take his photos, pretend to be someone they are not, and then scam people into falling in love with them, often trying to get money as the end result.
Alec also happens to be a professor of communication technologies at the University of Regina. He explains what romance scamming is and how it can be avoided.
